Mycological Field Trip
East side of Sandias

Sábado, Cinco de Mayo, 2007
Leaders: David y Terri Wallis
Details:
  • Field Trip will begin at 08:00, and we plan to be done by noon.
  • Please call or Email us if you plan to participate. If we don't hear from anyone, we may decide to visit another area.
  • We will be in the Elevation range of 2550-2650 m (8400-8700 ft). Starting at the trailhead, we will head up the Tree Spring Trail and probably explore the upper portion of the Oso Corredor Trail. We are likely also to visit the portion of Tejano Canyon below the Tree Spring trailhead.
  • We will meet at the Tree Spring Trailhead at 08:00.

    Directions:

  • From the intersection of NM Hwys 14 & 536 at San Antonito, head west on the Sandia Crest Rd (536). The Tree Spring Trailhead parking lot is approx 5.5 mi from the intersection.
  • Maps: The area we plan to visit is in the upper left.

    Conditions:

  • We expect conditions to be muddy and mostly snow-free.

    Fungi:

  • During the past couple of weeks, we have encountered some Peziza, but we still hope to find some snowbank fungi such as Discina and Caloscypha. We may also encounter fresh fruitings of Auricularia (wood ears). Perhaps we will have fresh specimens for the meeting that afternoon.

    Equipment:

  • We strongly recommend waterproof boots. Sarapes y Sombreros would also be appropriate.

  • Participants
    Notes:
  • This Outing is primarily a mycological field trip for NMMS members, but Mountain Club members, Friends of the Sandias, and USFS folks are welcome to join us.
  • Reasonably well-behaved dogs are welcome. We may request that dog(s) stay on a leash.
